Goofy Day 2
So Sunday dawned - well, actually dawn didn't happen until an hour or so after we'd already started running - but we got up early. Not quite as early this time though. We got to the race area about 5 - and headed throught the bag check tents with a plan of where to meet! Thankfully - in Debbie and Kathryn's tent there was a guy with a box of trashbags - Debbie managed to get us each one - and I can't tell you how much that helped. It was 34 degrees again - and 100% humidity - the trash bags helped block the cold while we waited at the starting line.
I had taken Tylenol 8 hour before the race this time, so my knee didn't hurt as much. But let me tell you - running 26.2 miles the day after running 13.1 is really not a lot of fun. Especially when you're cold and wet for the first couple hours. It finally warmed up - and the sun actually stayed out - I even took off my long sleeve shirt and ran in my tank top after a few hours.
Our course took us through Magic Kingdom, Epcot, the Wild Animal Kingdom and MGM. It was pretty fun - and there were plenty of characters out - always with someone standing by to take pictures with your camera if you wanted. We took a few pictures along the way. We also took it easy again. We stopped at all the water stops - and definitely any time they were giving out oranges or other food. We ran the first 13 miles (intervals of course) and then walked a mile. Intervaled a mile - walked two and then alternated intervals and walking for the next miles.
In Alaska - at about mile 17 or so - it hit me. I was really going to finish. I was going to run a marathon. In Disney World - I wasn't sure I was going to finish pretty much until we could see the finish line.
Despite walking about 8 miles of the second 13 - we actually did the second 13 in almost the same time we did the first 13. Our total time was 6:13:39. Here are our splits:
1. 12:29:78
13:49:492.
3. 13:02:06
4. 12:53:42
5. 12:54:98
6. 13:06:13
7. 13:25:08
8. 13:03:42
9. 13:25:15
10. 13:35:38
11. 15:58:62
12. 13:11:19
13. 13:59:07
14. 15:22:55
15. 12:42:32
16. 16:33:91
17. 16:41:27
18. 13:06:28
19. 16:11:36
20. 13:27:52
21. 17:22:31
22. 12:49:69
23. 16:37:00
24. 13:01:09
25. 18:49:97
26. 13:23:59
.2. 2:37:12
As you can see, even though the walking got slower - we actually maintained around the same pace for all the running sections! We finished hand in hand arms raised again. I got a little weepy - and then again every time someone said congratulations and as they hung the two medals on us. (We had gotten our Donald Duck medal on Saturday - Sunday we got both the Mickey Medal and the Goofy medal.) I really felt like we had done something!!
Even though after the first race I told Brant I didn't think I could make it the next day - we did it anyway. Even though pretty much the whole time I wanted to stop during the full - we finished anyway. I was pretty happy. And those medals are darn cool.
We went out to lunch and then hung out - we didn't crash - a combination of excitement and knowing that we didn't have to run the next day! We went out to dinner - but still went to bed pretty early.
On Monday, Debbie left in the morning. Kathryn Brant and I headed to Magic Kingdom for the day. We dropped Kathryn off at the airport and then headed back for the fireworks. On Tuesday we came home. Walking around the park all day Monday was a bit tiring - but I think it was good to stretch out our legs. I was walking normally by the end of the week!
